How to achieve the professional development of a regulator

(Montevideo).- Nowadays - in some Latin American and Caribbean countries - it continues to be a challenge to make decisions to achieve professional development in the management of the organizations in charge of control and inspection. In this article, Federico Rodriguez Aguiar, Marketing Analyst and Consultant from Uruguay, analyzes some proposals on the matter.

How to achieve the professional development of a regulator

Some of the measures that must be taken involve a capital investment, so it is necessary to substantiate the proposed plan and the resources required to present it to the respective Ministries of Finance.

Within the mix of proposals that we consider essential, we can highlight:

Investment in technology. Have a first-line Technology Department with a prepared technical and human team without forgetting the R&D members as central columns of the Organization.

Attend industry meetings, seminars and conferences. Spaces at the national and international level manage to generate networks of contacts between peers with mutual benefits. There are situations that supervisory agencies face with common points, similar problems regardless of the territorial limit. It is necessary to build alliances for greater and better development.

• Listen to the work team. Take into account the opinion and expertise of those who are in contact with the gaming market every day. Consider the experience acquired since this, in combination with the training of public servants, achieves significant progress.

Adaptation of the standards to “today” with the updates that are necessary after the respective analyzes have been carried out. Legislation is necessary according to our time. There should be no fear of discussion and exchange with the private sector with technical criteria where everyone knows what place they occupy.

Market Research. We must know what is happening in our environment. It is necessary to have an idea of the commercial and business reality. Understand the positioning of brands and development possibilities. Is there room for the entry of new operators? The State as such should not depend on subjective or biased analyzes when it is possible to have directly contracted studies.

Analyze the quality and quantity of the products that reach bettors or the forms of marketing. Apply protection and help systems. It is still necessary to talk about “Responsible Gaming”, it is not an exhausted topic.

It is true that we must look at half the glass full, but it is also necessary to observe that by adopting measures with suitable criteria it is possible to achieve quantifiable improvements.

The development of a regulator does not imply the increase in the power of the State, it implies the protection of all citizens, maintaining order in a market and setting clear rules that everyone must respect.
More and better security, more and better protection, more and better responsibility.
